Thomas Gast is an ex-foreign legionnaire, author and adventurer. He served for seventeen years in the Légion étrangère in Corsica, where he witnessed the changes in this elite corps at first hand during numerous missions and operations between 1987 and 2002. After his military service, he worked for twelve years in the international security sector, including in Saudi Arabia, Haiti, Israel and Yemen. He was part of the Yemen Liquid Natural Gas Project and worked as an armed security escort on the high seas. After returning to Germany in 2002, he worked as an image and sound technician at the theatre in Würzburg. In 2021, he moved to northern Sweden with his family.
